Born in a family of Kirtankars in Dharwad, Pt. Vinayak Torvi's career as a vocalist par excellence was preordained. He started his training with Tamanna Gurav, Narayanachar Dandapur and Nararyanrao Mujumdar - all well established vocalists from Dharwad. He then spent over twelve years learning from Gayanacharya Gururao Deshpande who represented both the Gwalior and Agra Gharanas. Thus, Vinayak Torvi's vocal style is a blend of these two great Gharanas. He has received additional guidance from the late Pt. Basavraj Rajguru, the late Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, Smt. Gangubai Hangal and Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. Blessed with a very rich and resonant voice, Pt. Torvi is also at ease with light classical and devotional music. He is well known for his singing of Bhajans in Kannada, Hindi and Marathi. He has participated in all major music festivals in India and is a Doordarshan and All India Radio A-grade artiste. Price : $20.00 |
